
Manpreet Singh is an Indian Field Hockey Player and Captain of the India Men’s national field hockey team since May 2017. Manpreet Singh is leading the Indian Men’s National Hockey Team this year at the Tokyo Olympics. He is one of the most important players in the lineup because of his Great Skills. Manpreet Singh Early Life

Manpreet Singh Sandhu was born on 26 June 1992 in the Village Mithapur of City Jalandhar Punjab. Born in the village of Mithapur near Jalandhar, a city that has produced many Indian hockey stars over the years, Manpreet Singh was introduced to the game early in life.
As from various sources, it has been found out that Manpreet took a hockey stick in hand, way before he handled a pencil. Manpreet began playing hockey when he was nine years old. Inspired by his elder brothers (more specifically from the awards they won) and Pargat Singh a former Indian Hockey team skipper from Jalandhar. Despite strict opposition from his mother and his brothers due to injury concerns, he never backed off from his will to play the sport. While the awards his brothers won were one of his inspirations, it was an award of Rs. 500 which he himself earned that earned him permission from his family to pursue a career in hockey. Manpreet joined the Surjit Hockey Academy in 2005, where he began his journey to become one of the best halfbacks in the country.

Manpreet Singh was inspired by his elder brother former Indian hockey captain Padma Shri Pargat Singh, who also hails from Manpreet’s Mithapur village. He was further attracted by the prizes his elder brothers won while playing hockey. He first won the Prize of INR Rs 500 cash in a Tournament.
In the Year 2005, Manpreet enrolled in India’s one of the most sought-after Surjit Hockey Academy of Jalandhar. And in 2011 Manpreet made his International Debut as a Part of the Indian Junior Team. He wears Jersey Number 7 because he is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

Captain Of India Men’s Hockey Team 2017 Onwards

Manpreet’s big chance came in the 2017 Asia Cup when India’s reigning captain PR Sreejesh sustained an injured right before the tournament. The selectors were looking to someone who can temporarily take the captaincy until Sreejesh returned. And they found no one better than Manpreet.
The 25-year-old had an instant impact. Under his stewardship, the side not only went on to top the group but eventually win the trophy as well. They beat Malaysia by 2-1 with Ramandeep and Upadhyay scoring a goal each.
By the stunning win, he had returned the favor that the selectors had done by showing faith in him. Manpreet Singh consolidated his place as the Indian Hockey Team’s Captain on 18 May 2017.

Manpreet also successfully steered India to a bronze medal at the 2017 Hockey World League Final. Earlier this year, under his guidance the team also won the Asian Champion’s Trophy with bitter Pakistan. He was awarded 2019 Men’s FIH Player of the Year Awards.
