Gurjit Kaur was born on 25 October 1995 in the Miadi Kalan village in Amritsar, Punjab. Gurjit was born into a Farmer’s Family. Gurjit Kaur’s father Satnam Singh is a Farmer and Mother Harjinder Kaur. Gurjit has one Older Sister, Pradeep Kaur. Her parents want their daughter to give them a quality Education so they elected to send their two daughters to a private school in Ajnala, over 13 km away, instead of the local government school in the village. Gurjit’s father Satnam Singh would fit his daughters into his cycle and drive them to school, and wait all day until their school got over to ferry them back.

Later Gurjit Kaur’s Parents decided to send their two daughters to a boarding school over 70 km away in Kairon in the Tarn Taran district of Punjab in 2006. Kairon is one of the oldest and most famous women’s hockey nurseries, and this is where the two sisters discovered their passion for the sport. 

Over there Gurjit discovered her passion for Hockey. Her interest and performance booked her a seat in the government win of school with free education and free meals. She then went on to graduate from Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women and continued practicing hockey on the side. This was also the time she got serious about drag flicking.

Gurjit Kaur Hockey Career

Gurjit Kaur started her career in Hockey when her parents send Gurjit and her elder sister to a Boarding School Kairon which was one of the oldest and most famous women’s hockey nurseries, and this is where the two sisters discovered their passion for the sport. 

In the year 2014,  She began her national career after being selected for the Senior National Camp in 2014. and Gurjit became the permanent member in the year 2017. Gurjit was brought to the limelight at the 2017 Asian Cup when her team won the championship title and qualified for the 2018 Hockey World Cup, London.

Her team won the championship title and Gurjit became the third-highest goal scorer. Gurjit and the team also competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games against Australia. However, they lost the match. In 2020, Gurjit Kaur showed an impressive performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and led India to the semi-finals.
