Minions: The Rise of Gru  

This year the yellow banana-loving characters are returning with Minions: The Rise of Gru. Fun and cute Minions are returning with the fifth entry from the Despicable Me franchise. The movie is a sequel to the original Minions movie and will take on the story where the last film left off. Viewers will see a younger Gru who starts his journey to become evil. It is coming to cinemas on the 1st of July this year.   


After a long wait, Toy Story fans are getting a new movie starring the Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear. However, this movie has a setting in a different Universe where Buzz Lightyear is an actual astronaut on a mission. To make things clearer, the Toy Story character Buzz is an action figure based on the protagonist of the film Lightyear. It is one of the most awaited animated films of the year and is coming to cinemas on June 17, 2022.   


Puss in Boots: The Last Wish  

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a Dreamworks movie from the Shrek universe. After a long pause of more than a decade, Puss is finally returning to the cinemas again. The first Puss in Boots movie came in 2011. In this film, you can see Puss on a mission to get back his 8 out of 9 lives that were lost thanks to his reckless demeanor. The feline main character is going to be voiced by Antonio Banderas like in all previous appearances. And, this film is set to release on December 21, 2022.   

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero  

According to many people, the Dragon Ball franchise is one of the main reasons behind the popularity of anime throughout the world. It is going to be the 21st movie from the franchise taking off from the Dragon Ball Super series. This year with Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie, you can see Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and other friends going against android villains designed by the Red Ribbon army. Also, this movie was produced with the direct involvement of Akira Toriyama and is the first time the Dragon Ball franchise is using 3D animations. So, you can expect an action-packed animated film with more vivid animation.   

The movie is coming to cinemas on July 11, 2022.   

Suzume no Tojimari (Suzume’s Locking-Up)  

Suzume no Tojimari is another movie from Japanese animation studios on this list. It is a movie written and directed by Makoto Shinkai who is famous for movies like Your Name and Weathering with You. The visuals of this movie are going to be on the same level as his previous masterpieces. In addition to the animation, Suzume no Tojimari is a fantasy adventure movie where the main character Suzume gets stuck in a door and mysterious doors that bring unfortunate events start to show up everywhere in Japan. This movie is coming out on the 11th of November this year.   

Strange World   

Strange World is an adventure film coming from Disney studios. It is a movie based around a family of legendary explorers “Clades”. Originally, the movie was going to be titled Searcher Clade but for some reason, they chose a different name. The visual shared by Disney Animation shows two characters looking at unknown creatures and land with strange creatures. Besides the outside conflict, the movie has an element of family drama too. So, it is going to be one of the movies with classic Disney DNA. You can take your kids to enjoy this movie in cinemas on the 23rd of November.   

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles  

A childhood favorite of a lot of people is returning this year with an action-packed and fun-filled movie. This movie links to the latest TMNT series airing from 2018 to 2020. In this film, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo will be facing an extraterrestrial threat from an alien species called Krang. If you are a TMNT fan, this film can be really fun for you. The movie is coming out on August 5, 2022.
